A couple of years after 200 New York City fast-food workers walked off their jobs, triggering a nationwide movement for $15 and union rights, cooks and cashiers at McDonald’s, Burger King, Wendy’s and other major national chains went on strike Thursday in more than 190 cities– the most ever–joined for the first time by convenience store clerks and dollar-store workers in two dozen cities. The USA spent $2.7 trillion on health care last year, and the absolute bill is projected to achieve $4.78 trillion, or 19.6 percent of the U.S. economy, by 2021 , according to national data released earlier this year.

Describing projected job growth, the BLS notes that “hearing loss increases as people age, so an aging population will probably raise demand for audiologists.” There are not quite many audiologists, and a proposed 36.8 percent increase in occupations would bring the absolute number of audiologists to 17,800 by the end of the decade.
